Our Role in Lost & Found: What Do We Do?
Losing an item while traveling is often challenging not because of its "value", but because of the stress it creates. Passport cover, phone, headphones, luggage tag, child's toy... Even a small forgetfulness can grow into a big problem amidst the rush to catch a plane, change hotels, or make a transfer. That is exactly why we created this page: So you don't have to manage the Lost & Found process alone.
Our role is not a simple "we put a form here, handle the rest yourself" approach. Our goal is to offer support so that those who reach us can direct themselves to the right channel faster and make their applications with stronger evidence and more accurate information. Because in lost property processes, there is something as important as speed: the correct application, the correct detail. An application made to the wrong unit (airport instead of airline, airline instead of hotel, etc.) can cause days of delay.
How Can We Help?
1) We help you identify the right channel
- • Depending on where the lost item was last seen, the correct address is usually:
- • Inside the Terminal (security, gate, lounge, baggage claim, etc.) → mostly Airport Lost & Found

Lost & Found teams match items not by you saying "it's mine", but by unique details. Therefore, details like brand, model, color, serial number, distinguishing marks, case/tag are critical. We check the information in the form from this perspective and guide you to complete missing points. (Especially for valuable items like phone/laptop/camera, the serial number is worth gold.)
3) Time is critical: we try to speed up the process
Retention periods for airports/airlines/ground services vary worldwide. Some institutions keep items for a short time, then transfer them via different procedures. Therefore, "immediate application + clear information" is the best strategy. We simplify the process to facilitate this.
4) We describe the correct communication steps
Some institutions require an e-mail, some an online form, some a phone call. Some airports use different communication channels for the "lost property office" on a terminal basis. We provide the relevant directions (and official links if possible) on the page and carry you to the right door.
What We Don't Do?
Let's be transparent: We are not an airport or airline Lost & Found office; therefore:
- • We cannot physically receive the item,
- • We cannot make an official "found/not found" decision,
- • We cannot access the internal systems of some institutions.
- • But we provide practical support for you to make the right application in the right way, go to the right channel quickly, and avoid mistakes that delay the process. This is often what makes the difference in the lost property process.

How Lost & Found Usually Works
Procedures differ depending on where the item was lost: terminal, aircraft, vehicle, or hotel. In many cases, airport terminals handle “lost property”, airlines handle baggage issues, and hotels/transport operators handle on-site losses.

A 'quick guide' useful for searches like lost item report, airport lost and found, item left on plane, lost luggage, item left in hotel, item left in taxi.
1) Choose the right Lost & Found channel (most critical step)
Reporting the lost item to the correct institution significantly speeds up the process. Applying to the wrong place often causes days of delay.
Airport / Terminal Lost & Found: If the item was lost in the terminal: security, gate, lounge, restroom, baggage claim / carousel, passport control, shops/restaurants inside the terminal.
Airline Lost & Found: If the item was forgotten on the plane, left during boarding, left in the overhead bin / seat pocket.
Ground Services / Handling / Baggage Service: Especially lost luggage, delayed luggage, damaged luggage issues usually proceed through this channel (managed by the airline in some countries).
Vehicle / Transfer / Taxi / Bus: If the item was left inside a vehicle: license plate, vehicle type, date-time, route, driver/booking info are critical.
Hotel / Tour / Activity Provider: If the item was left at the hotel, on a tour bus, boat tour, or activity area.
Rule of thumb: On the plane? → Airline | Inside the terminal? → Airport | In a vehicle? → Transfer/Taxi | At the hotel? → Hotel
2) Fill in the 'item description' strongly on the lost item form
Lost & Found teams match items not by 'similarity' but by unique details. Make sure to write:
Brand / Model (Apple, Samsonite, Samsung, etc.)
Color
Serial Number / IMEI (if available, 'worth gold')
Distinguishing Marks: scratch, label, name writing, sticker, case, wear and tear
Content Detail: What was inside the bag? (general, without sensitive info)
Photo: If you have a previously taken photo, attach it
Example of a good description (SEO friendly): 'Apple AirPods Pro 2, white, small scratch on the right earbud, black silicone case, red sticker on the case.'
3) Retention period varies by country and institution
Worldwide, the Lost & Found system generally works as follows:
When an item is found, it is recorded (date, time, place, category).
Institutions keep the item for a limited time (varies by airport/airline/country/item type).
When the period expires, items may be:
Destroyed
Donated
Liquidated / Auctioned via official procedure (in some countries)
Therefore, making a report as soon as the loss is noticed is the best tactic.
4) Identity verification and proof of ownership are normal
For security during delivery, most institutions may request:
ID/Passport verification
Proof that the item belongs to you: serial number, photo, purchase document/receipt
Address and confirmation for shipping via courier
5) Fees: pickup may be free, shipping is usually paid
In many places, 'finding and registering the item' is free; however:
Cargo/Courier fees are usually borne by the passenger.
Some institutions may charge a processing/handling fee.
Take photos of your belongings before you travel (quickest solution tip)
